McKinley Heard is an effective collaborator. Collaboration is a major component of technical and professional communication (TPC). Heard and other fellow technical communicators worked together to create the featured website, Emotional Intelligence in Collaboration. The website aims to further research about collaborative practices in TPC. The technical communicators wrote and edited the online articles in tandem and individually over the course of a semester at the University of Memphis. The group participated in weekly scheduled meetings, and the document was always available to be worked on outside of these meetings. The goal of collaborative writing and editing is for the end product to be impossible to divide into individual authors. The articles exhibit one collective writing voice instead of individual writing voices put together. Collaborative writing and editing can be difficult, but the results yielded will be better than if the writing and editing was done by only one person. 

     Emotional intelligence is a key issue of collaborative efforts because it can affect the way people work together. Heard and her collaborators conducted diligent research about emotional intelligence within collaborative settings. The advanced content is presented in a way that is accessible to novices. Heard and her collaborators employed their knowledge of document design to achieve an aesthetic look that attracts viewership.
